Machete Fight Erupts Near Family Christmas Event
A shocking confrontation involving youths armed with machetes occurred just metres away from families with children at a festive Christmas event in Nottingham. The incident took place on Sunday night, close to the popular Winter Wonderland attraction in Old Market Square.
Police are now actively hunting for four young people involved in the violent clash. According to witnesses, the altercation involved four youths riding on two e-bikes who confronted another group of youths who were on foot. Two of the e-bike riders were reportedly in possession of large knives.
Police Response and Ongoing Manhunt
Officers were called to the Council House in Old Market Square at around 6.15pm on November 16, 2025. Despite arriving on the scene in less than a minute and conducting an extensive search of the area, the suspects managed to flee. Several people were searched, but no arrests were made. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.
An investigation has been launched to identify those responsible. Police are conducting an extensive CCTV search of the area and are appealing to the public for information. High-visibility reassurance patrols are continuing in the area to provide public safety.
Senior Police Condemn 'Despicable Behaviour'
Chief Superintendent Nick Waldram issued a strong statement condemning the violence. He said, 'This type of despicable behaviour has absolutely no place in our city and rest assured we will leave no stone unturned until they are in our custody.'
He emphasised the impact on the public, stating, 'We will use every power at our disposal to find them and throw the full force of the law at them. This incident happened in view of families with children. No one should have to go into the city and experience this shameful and dangerous behaviour.'
Chief Supt Waldram also highlighted the damage such incidents cause to the city's reputation and the ongoing work to combat knife crime. He made a direct appeal: 'Someone out there knows who they are. Do you know who these people are? Have you heard who might be involved?'
