Brit Shares Ridiculous Room Cooling Hack for UK Heatwave

Dean Cooper, a resident of Cornwall, has shared his unconventional yet effective method for cooling down his bedroom during the unprecedented June heatwave. Using just two common household items—a duvet cover and a fan—he claims to achieve a 'better sleep' even on the hottest nights. With another hot and humid night forecast, his approach has garnered attention on TikTok.

The Simple Yet Ingenious Setup

In a TikTok clip, Dean explained: 'If you don't want to be hot tonight, use this simple trick involving a duvet and a fan to make your room cool to sleep in. No matter what the weather is like outside, you can make a perfect, tranquil, cool little cave to sleep in for the night.'

He began by turning on his fan, positioned on a chest of drawers beside his bed. Then, he took an empty duvet cover and directed its opening toward the fan, allowing it to fill with air. As the cool air swirled inside, Dean climbed into the duvet cover, creating a cocoon-like shelter around his body. 'I may have just accidentally built air conditioning for people who don't have air conditioning,' he declared.

How It Works and Practical Tips

Dean noted that the duvet cover stays open while he is inside, but if it collapses, a stick or broom handle can be attached to the front of the fan to keep it inflated. He highlighted the 'circular' air circulation, which provides a 'constant fresh breeze' and creates a 'giant cooling tunnel with air circulating all around you.'

He admitted the setup looks 'ridiculous' but emphasized its effectiveness: 'It's ridiculous. It looks ridiculous. But when it's roasting hot outside, I don't care.' He also suggested it for those with heart issues, blood pressure problems, or anyone 'melting into the mattress.'

Additional Benefits and User Reactions

Dean revealed that children love playing inside the duvet cover during the daytime under supervision, and the setup remains up throughout the night until the user climbs out and switches the fan off. He concluded: 'To me, having this is a great way to make sure through the hot weather you don't struggle.'

One TikTok user responded: 'Brilliant idea, but you really shouldn't sleep with a fan directly pointing at you as it can give you muscle fatigue. Love the idea though.' Dean replied: 'Thanks for the comment. I sleep like this (not in the bag but with the fan all year round). It somehow helps keep my night palpitations away. If it's too cold I take a cover inside with me. It's like a bed in a bed in a wind tunnel.'
