Eagle-eyed BBC Breakfast viewers spotted a dog 'living its best life' during a serious RSPCA interview about pet safety in the UK heatwave. The hilarious blooper occurred as the RSPCA expert discussed how to keep dogs safe in the sweltering 38°C heat.
Dog Steals the Show in Richmond
The dog was seen playing in the water in Richmond Upon Thames, appearing to have a duck in its mouth as it exited the water. After placing the duck on the ground, the duck flew away, prompting the dog to jump straight back into the water to chase it.
Social media users found the moment hilarious. User @Stannie74 commented: 'Seen this and my husband and I couldn’t stop laughing.' Andrew added: 'That looks like a crazy spaniel as well.' Cooper remarked: 'That is so bad especially considering they were interviewing someone from the RSPCA.' Helen called it 'brilliant', adding: 'I was wondering if I imagined it when I saw it this morning.'
Heatwave Dangers for Dogs
While this dog enjoyed the water, the heatwave poses serious risks for the UK's 15 million pet dogs. Dog trainer Jane Robinson told Metro that dogs cannot regulate their body temperatures as well as humans. 'Panting is far less efficient than sweating, especially when humidity is high,' she explained. Robinson advises that when temperatures hit 30°C or higher, owners should not walk their dogs at all due to the increased risk of heatstroke.
The unexpected heatwave has disrupted daily life, with school closures and tube delays continuing into rush hour. Experts are urging owners to keep pets cool and hydrated, and to avoid walks during peak heat.
