Clashes Near Gate 8
Violent scenes have broken out near the World Cup opener between Mexico and South Africa. Online footage appears to show disorder erupting in the vicinity of Estadio Azteca. The tournament's inaugural match, staged at the renowned stadium, was marred by scenes of turmoil as large crowds allegedly congregated near Gate 8. Eyewitness video clips seem to show groups of demonstrators hurling objects, including what are thought to be Molotov cocktails, towards police lines as officers endeavoured to control the situation.
The match itself, forming part of the opening fixture of the FIFA World Cup, was ongoing inside the stadium during the disturbances, although there were worries about access routes and spectator safety around the venue, reports the Irish Mirror.

Officials have yet to confirm the extent of any injuries or arrests, and no official statement has been issued regarding whether the unrest has affected entry to the stadium or the scheduling of the match.
Tragic Death Before Kick-Off
Earlier, we reported how a man tragically passed away just before the game kicked off. The 80-year-old is thought to have suffered a suspected heart attack at Gate 1. Emergency services rushed to the scene, causing alarm among spectators and stadium personnel. Paramedics from the World Cup security team were on site within minutes to administer first aid, with emergency medical technicians stabilising the German national through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The gentleman was revived in the ambulance and was in a stable condition under observation in hospital, according to the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Civil Protection. But sadly, he later died.
