Two women who chased a man around a house and slashed him with knives have been jailed. Demi Oliver, 26, and Kelly Rees, 36, attacked Warren Harper at a property in Precelly Place, Milford Haven, on July 27, 2024, after a night of drinking.
Attack details
Neighbours reported hearing loud voices and music. All three were acquainted and lived nearby; Oliver and Mr Harper had previously been in a relationship and shared a child. During the assault, Mr Harper was chased around the home and barricaded himself in the bathroom while both women pounded on the door.
Prosecution barrister Dean Pullen told Swansea Crown Court that Mr Harper tried to leave but saw Rees, who had consumed crack cocaine, in the kitchen brandishing a knife. As he went to retrieve his bag, Rees sliced his wrist with a Stanley knife. Oliver slashed him with a different knife.
Victim considered jumping from window
Mr Pullen said Mr Harper ran upstairs and considered jumping from a window but decided it was too high. He returned downstairs and forced his way out while bleeding profusely. He was taken to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest with stab wounds to his wrist and arm and later required surgery.
Sentencing
Oliver and Rees admitted unlawful wounding and were sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday. Barristers David Singh and Ian Ibrahim provided mitigation, but Judge Huw Rees warned both would receive immediate prison sentences despite the incident occurring two years prior.
Judge Rees said: "The victim sustained very serious injuries, not a nick causing a superficial injury. They were two significant wounds to the victim's left wrist and arm."
Oliver, from Precelly Place, Milford Haven, received a 17-month prison sentence. Rees, of Waterloo Road, Hakin, who is currently serving time for a robbery in Milford Haven, was given an additional 27 months behind bars.
