Two women are fighting for their lives after a telegraph pole with live electricity wires fell on them at a busy train station in Rhondda, Wales. The incident occurred at Pontyclun train station, where the pole struck the women in the car park.

Emergency Response

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene at 12:50pm on Thursday following reports that the women were trapped under the pole. One woman sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other is also in critical condition. Both were rushed to University Hospital of Wales for urgent treatment.

Police Statement

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: South Wales Police was called at 12.50pm this afternoon to the car park for Pontyclun train station to reports of two women trapped underneath a telegraph pole. The women have been taken to University Hospital of Wales where they continue to receive medical treatment.

Station Details

Pontyclun station, which is unstaffed, is located on the south Wales line between Cardiff and Maesteg and occasionally serves regional Swanline services running between Cardiff Central and Swansea.
