Two women chased a man around a house in Milford Haven, Wales, before slashing him with a Stanley knife, leaving him with serious wounds that required surgery.
Attack details
Warren Harper had been drinking with his former partner Demi Oliver, 26, and Kelly Rees, 36, at the time of the attack on July 27, 2024. The trio were known to each other and lived nearby, with Oliver and Mr Harper having previously been in a relationship and had a child together.
Neighbours reported hearing loud voices and music after a night of drinking at the property in Precelly Place.
Prosecution barrister Dean Pullen told Swansea Crown Court that Mr Harper tried to leave the property but saw Rees, who had taken crack cocaine, standing in the kitchen with a knife in her hand. As he went to get his bag, Rees cut him on the wrist with a Stanley knife. He was also slashed by Oliver who was holding a different knife.
Victim's escape and injuries
Mr Pullen told the court that Mr Harper ran upstairs and contemplated trying to escape via a window. Deciding it was too high to jump, he went back downstairs and managed to force his way out of the house while 'bleeding profusely'.
He was taken to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest in an ambulance with stab wounds to his wrist and arm and later required surgery.
Sentencing
Oliver and Rees both pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and appeared for sentencing at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday.
Barristers David Singh and Ian Ibrahim offered mitigation for Oliver and Rees respectively but Judge Huw Rees warned that both defendants would face immediate custodial sentences, despite the incident happening two years ago.
Judge Rees said: 'The victim sustained very serious injuries, not a nick causing a superficial injury. They were two significant wounds to the victim's left wrist and arm.'
Oliver, of Precelly Place, Milford Haven, was jailed for 17 months. Rees, of Waterloo Road, Hakin, who is currently serving a custodial sentence for a robbery in Milford Haven, was jailed for a further 27 months.
