A woman in her 40s remains in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Blyth, Northumberland. The collision occurred shortly before 11am on Sunday, August 30, when a white Ford Kuga struck the pedestrian, who was in the road at the roundabout at the junction of Ridley Avenue and Wellington Street.
Emergency response and hospitalisation
Emergency services, including the air ambulance, attended the scene. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by road with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition. The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
A section of the road was closed for a period of time, with at least two Forensic Collision Investigation Unit vans present. The road reopened just after 3pm the same day.
Ambulance and air ambulance statements
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on Bridge Street in Blyth at 10:54 on Sunday 30 August. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic, one clinical team leader and were supported by Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). One patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSEC) by road."
A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) added: "Our doctor and paramedic team were activated to an incident at 11:10am, they flew to the scene and arrived within 17 minutes. On scene they worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service before returning to base."
Investigation and witness appeal
Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are especially keen to hear from anyone with CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage of the collision, or the moments leading up to it.
