A young woman was found dead in her seat after a four-hour flight when fellow passengers noticed she had not moved after landing. Abidai López Solís, 28, was travelling on Volaris Flight 3358 from Tijuana to Tapachula International Airport in Chiapas, Mexico, on Wednesday morning.
Passengers had already begun disembarking when Abidai was found motionless. People in her row called for help after she failed to respond, but paramedics confirmed she had died. Footage showed officials carrying her off the plane covered by a sheet.
Autopsy and family identification
Airport teams were mobilised while prosecutors carried out the formal removal of the body, which was taken away for an autopsy. Forensic reports later linked her death to cardiorespiratory arrest and suggested it was from natural causes. Her family identified her at the state prosecutor's office in Chiapas on Thursday.
Abidai came from Acacoyagua in Chiapas State, and relatives had her body taken back to the municipality for the funeral. She was returning to the area to see family members. The prosecutor's office has not yet published the autopsy report, and no foul play has been alleged as the investigation continues.
Separate incident: Avianca flight diverted
This comes as eight people were rushed to hospital after a flight was forced to divert thousands of miles due to severe turbulence. Avianca Flight 042 was travelling from Medellín, Colombia, to New York City when turbulence hit, forcing a diversion to Miami, where the flight landed safely at 3.30am on Friday.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said multiple patients were injured during the turbulent journey, with a number of ambulances waiting upon landing. Passenger Paula Jimenez told CBS News Miami: "When we arrived, when we landed, we saw that very close to where we were going to disembark, there were more than five or six ambulances. Seven of them with their lights on as if they were waiting for something. When we arrived, well, you know, it wasn't normal."
