Woman Charged with Murder of Man with Down's Syndrome

A 70-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the death of a 56-year-old man with Down's syndrome in Queensland, Australia. The man, known as Isaac or 'Ike', was found unresponsive at a home in Ayr, south of Townsville, on August 10, 2023, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Reveals Severe Malnourishment

Police launched a suspicious death investigation, and a crime scene was established. Extensive inquiries into Isaac's health, care, and treatment throughout his life, including a thorough post-mortem, revealed he was severely malnourished, weighing just 29kg at the time of his death.

Following a complex three-year investigation, detectives from the Crime Command Homicide Investigation Unit and Ayr Criminal Investigation Branch arrested the woman on Tuesday. She has been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence) and is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court.
