A shocking video captures the moment a woman was attacked with a glass bottle by a gang of racists in Glasgow city centre. The incident occurred near Renfield Street around 12:30am on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Attack details
Four male youths rushed towards the woman, who was wearing a hijab and reportedly returning home from work. One of the males smashed an object on her head. Taxi driver Zack Aziz, who was on shift, heard the commotion and asked someone to call 999.
Aziz told Glasgow Live: "They were racially abusing the Muslim female wearing a hijab, calling her a 'dirty P**i' and saying 'this is our country, go back home'. They told her to take the hijab off and kept harassing her. One guy, in orange shorts, smacked her on the head with a glass bottle."
Aftermath and police response
Aziz said the woman went to hospital and received stitches. He added: "She feels vulnerable and unsafe. This is not the first time that South Asians have been attacked in Glasgow."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12:30am on Wednesday, 22 July, 2026, we received reports of a disturbance involving a group of youths near the Renfield Street area of Glasgow city centre. Officers attended however the youths had made off from the area. No one required any medical treatment. Enquiries are ongoing."
Aziz expressed fear for his own safety, stating: "I don't feel safe anymore when I'm by myself. The police need to step up and do something about this. We feel like nothing is being done to keep us protected in our streets from racist thugs."
