A woman has been arrested after a child in a pushchair was allegedly assaulted outside a Sainsbury's supermarket in Spalding, Lincolnshire. Police also believe the child was subjected to swearing and shouting inside the store.
Arrest and bail
A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed while the investigation continues. The incident occurred at the store in Holland Market, Spalding, on Monday 27 July at around 3:30pm.
Police appeal for witnesses
Lincolnshire Police have urged anyone who saw or heard anything connected to the incident to come forward. The force said safeguarding actions regarding the child have been taken immediately.
In a statement, police said: "A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after we received reports that a child had been hit while outside of a store in Spalding on Monday 27 July. We are investigating an offence of assault and are appealing for information following reports of a child in a pushchair being assaulted outside of the Sainsbury's store, Holland Market, Spalding. We also believe the child was subjected to swearing and shouting inside the store as well."
Officers asked members of the public to stop speculating and publishing information on social media, as this could hinder the investigation and taint witness evidence.
