A 60-year-old woman has died after falling into the water near Dunnet Head in Caithness. The alarm was raised around 6pm on Thursday, August 6, prompting a major emergency response.
Emergency response and recovery
Emergency services, including HM Coastguard, were alerted to reports of someone in the water. A Coastguard helicopter, several rescue teams, and the Thurso RNLI lifeboat were dispatched to the scene.
The woman's body was recovered from the water during a search. Her family has been informed, and her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Statements from responders
A spokesperson for Thurso RNLI Lifeboat said: "The Taylors had an immediate launch at 6.20pm today, Thursday 6th August. This was in response to the report of a female in the sea in the Dunnet Head area.
"The lifeboat arrived on scene at 6.42pm and conducted a short search before the casualty was recovered and taken on board the lifeboat by crew members."
The lifeboat returned to Scrabster at 7.20pm, where the casualty was handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service. The Taylors was refuelled and made ready for service at 7.50pm.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended a report of a 60-year-old woman having fallen in the water in the Dunnet Head area around 6.15pm on Thursday, August 6.
"A body was recovered and her family has been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
