A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in a Black Country street just hours before Christmas Eve.
Two Men Arrested Following Street Attack
West Midlands Police have arrested two men, aged 50 and 27, on suspicion of attempted murder. The arrests followed a rapid police response to the incident on Wordsworth Road in Willenhall on Tuesday evening.
Officers were alerted by ambulance colleagues at around 7.30pm on December 23rd. Upon arrival, they found paramedics treating a man in his 20s who had sustained a suspected gunshot wound.
Advanced Trauma Care at the Scene
The emergency response was significant. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call at 7.28pm reporting a shooting.
A spokesperson detailed the resources dispatched: "Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene."
The medical team found one patient, a man, with life-threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care from specialists at the location before being rushed to hospital for further emergency treatment.
Police Investigation and Community Reassurance
Police have cordoned off the scene on Wordsworth Road and forensic investigations are ongoing. Officers remain at the location today, conducting door-to-door enquiries and retrieving CCTV footage from the area.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "We know that an incident like this causes concern and we have stepped up patrols to offer reassurance to local people."
The two arrested men remain in police custody as enquiries continue. Police are urging anyone with information who has not yet come forward to make contact.
