Firefighters are battling a fire at the historic John Bull Chop House on Coopers Row in Wigan town centre. A 50-metre exclusion zone has been set up, and people are being urged to avoid the area.
Emergency response
Four fire engines from Wigan, Atherton, and Leigh fire stations were called to the scene at approximately 4am on Tuesday 4 August. Crews used breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one hose reel jet, and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters remain in attendance at this time, according to a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
Public safety measures
A Wigan council spokesperson said: "GMFRS are currently tackling a blaze at the John Bull pub in Wigan. A 50-metre exclusion zone has been set up to keep the public safe. Please avoid the area if possible."
