Dylan Sumner, 29, from Widnes, died at the scene after his motorcycle crashed with a van in West Yorkshire on June 25, 2026. Emergency services were called at 10.20am to Saddleworth Road at the junction with Gate Head Lane in Calderdale following reports of a collision between a Yamaha MT motorcycle and a Fiat Ducato van. Mr Sumner suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation and Arrest
West Yorkshire Police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was interviewed and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Tributes from Family
Mr Sumner's mother, Leanne Sumner, paid tribute on social media: 'Today I have lost the most precious child, the most loveable kind caring man a mum could ever wish for. Fly high my [first] born you are loved and will truly be missed. I used to ring you for advice you are my rock and I can not express how you will truly be missed my hearts broken I love you son xx.'
His aunt also posted: 'I can’t believe I’m having to write this and don’t even know how to put it into words. This morning one of the most beautiful, caring, loving, genuine man my perfect nephew Dylan had his life taken in a RTA I feel so honoured to be your auntie and watch you make the most beautiful man. I can’t believe you gone my boy, you will forever live on in my heart and I promise we will all talk about you every day. I love you so much Dylan fly high with the angels. My precious nephew I love you.'
