Staffordshire Police have arrested a sixth person in connection with the fire that destroyed the historic Crooked House pub in Dudley. A 23-year-old man from Leicestershire was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 3, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent or being reckless as to whether life was endangered. He has been released on conditional bail.
The arrest follows those of four men, aged 33, 44, 51 and 66, and a 34-year-old woman, all of whom have also been released on conditional bail. The blaze occurred on August 5 at the 18th-century pub, which was famously known as the wonkiest in Britain due to its 16-degree slant. The destruction sparked national outrage.
The pub was bulldozed shortly after the fire, before it was officially treated as arson. Activists have since been visiting the site, and community groups have formed to campaign for its reconstruction. South Staffordshire Council is assisting police with the investigation, which includes reviewing CCTV footage.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues. The iconic pub attracted visitors from around the world, and locals recall rolling ping pong balls down its slanted bar.
