The 'One Too Many' campaign, backed by the UK government, warns that passengers who drink excessively before or during flights risk having their holidays ruined, facing flight cancellations, delays, diversions, or even jail time. The initiative is now displayed at over 20 airports nationwide, including London Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester, Liverpool John Lennon, Newcastle International, and Bristol.
London Luton Issues Urgent Warning
London Luton Airport posted on X (formerly Twitter) on June 30, 2026, urging travellers to 'fly responsibly' or face consequences. The post states: 'One too many is all it takes to... ruin a holiday, cause a delay, cancel a flight, divert a plane, land YOU in jail.' The graphic emphasizes that disruptive behaviour can lead to refused boarding, lifetime airline bans, or fines up to £80,000 if a flight is diverted due to passenger misconduct.
Government-Backed Initiative Since 2018
Introduced in 2018, the 'One Too Many' campaign is supported by the Department for Transport and the Home Office. Karen Dee, Chief Executive of the Airport Operators Association, said: 'UK airports are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers. We urge travellers to enjoy their journeys responsibly and not ruin their holidays or the holidays of others. Airports will continue to monitor and act against any disruptive behaviour to ensure everyone's safety.'
Widespread Implementation Across UK Airports
The campaign's messaging is now visible at major hubs, reminding passengers that alcohol-related disruption can have severe legal and financial repercussions. The warning applies to all UK travellers, regardless of departure airport, and aims to curb incidents that endanger safety or inconvenience other passengers.
