UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento has died in his sleep at the age of 34. The Brazilian fighter, who competed six times for the UFC over five years, was found unresponsive after an apparent heart attack, with medical efforts failing to revive him.
Nascimento's last bout came in June, when he lost a decision to Mitch Raposi in Las Vegas. He won four of his six UFC fights and held an overall MMA record of 22-7.
UFC statement and tributes
The UFC said in a statement: "This morning, our beloved fighter and exemplary flyweight, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep. Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan's family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, a fellow Brazilian, paid tribute: "Today I lost a brother that the fight game gave me. Thank you for always being by my side, for sharing the mats and the corner. I have nothing but gratitude for having you with me in training, in the corner, and just hanging out. I love you, man; you're a legend."
The UFC added that Nascimento was "a fixture on the doorstep of the Top 15" and shared a close bond with Oliveira, who is the current BMF titleholder. The organisation extended condolences to Nascimento's family, friends, and the Chute Boxe Diego Lima team.
Gym's tribute
Nascimento's gym also issued a statement: "Today our team loses much more than an athlete; we lost a warrior, a friend, a dedicated competitor, and an extraordinary human being who earned the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Allan inspired on and off the mat with his determination, humility, respect and fighting spirit. Your presence will be missed immeasurably. Rest in peace Allan, your name, your story and your legacy will live forever through our star."
