Two British women have died after a minibus, two trucks and a van collided on a road in western Romania. Eight dogs travelling with them were also killed.
Emergency services were called to the N 6 road in Caraș-Severin, near the Serbian border, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash. Firefighters had to extricate the bodies of the two women, aged 61 and 41, from the minibus. They were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Ten dogs on board, eight killed
Ten dogs were travelling in the minibus, which was reportedly UK-registered. Eight of the dogs died in the crash. The other drivers involved were treated for their injuries at the scene and were not taken to hospital.
Local police said: “From the first checks carried out on site, the accident involved two truck-trains and a minibus. Unfortunately, following the impact, two women in the minibus died.”
Investigation launched
Initial reports suggest the minibus had veered onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into another vehicle. A manslaughter investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
