Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a suspected assault in County Durham, where the male victim remains in a critical condition in hospital. Durham Constabulary officers responded to reports of a seriously injured man in a back lane behind Woods Terrace in Murton at approximately 12:50 PM on Saturday, June 27.
Incident Details
The victim was discovered in the back lane and subsequently transported to Sunderland Royal Hospital. Emergency services, including the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), also attended the scene. The GNAAS critical care team was activated at 1:17 PM and arrived on scene at 1:28 PM, where they worked alongside NEAS to assess and treat the patient before he was taken to hospital by road.
Arrests and Investigation
Durham Constabulary confirmed that two arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and both suspects remain in police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.

In a statement, a Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched following a suspected assault in Murton. Officers were called at 12.50pm on Saturday (June 27) following reports that a man had been found with injuries in the back lane behind Woods Terrace. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and would like to speak to anyone who could assist their enquiries."

Emergency Services Response
An NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 1pm on Saturday (29 June 2026) to reports of a person injured as a result of an incident in Murton, Seaham. We sent a clinical team leader, emergency ambulance, the air ambulance and took the patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital by road for further treatment."
The GNAAS spokesperson added: "On Saturday our critical care team was activated at 1.17pm to reports of an assault in Murton. We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 1.28pm. Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient. The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."
