Two people have been arrested following a large fight involving a bladed article in Cornwall which left three men injured, police have said. Armed officers were deployed to Calenick Street in Truro at around 1.45pm on Monday, August 24, where one man suffered a potentially serious injury and two other men sustained minor injuries.
Arrests and injuries
Devon and Cornwall Police said two men in their 20s have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remain in police custody. Those involved are believed to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public, the force added.
Witness accounts and police appeal
Witnesses described a large police presence as officers cordoned off the area, causing traffic disruption nearby. One person told Cornwall Live: “I was in the queue of cars trying to drive down. Guy in front said turn around! It’s mayhem! I left asap.” Another witness said: “[Just off Victoria Square is] all cordoned off around Burger King, around 30 coppers, 12 police cars.”
Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing for witnesses and footage following the disturbance. The force said in a statement: “Officers were called at around 1.45pm on Monday 24 August to the incident involving a number of people and a bladed article in Calenick Street. Armed officers attended and a scene guard was put in place.”
