A four-year-old British boy has tragically died after falling into a swimming pool while on a family holiday near the Costa del Sol in Spain. The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. local time at a rural holiday home in the village of Periana, located in the La Axarquia region, approximately 30 miles northeast of Malaga.
The boy was staying at the property with his parents. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene, with a helicopter also deployed as part of the urgent response. Despite their efforts, the young boy could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the heartbreaking incident. However, sources close to the case have indicated that there is currently no evidence suggesting any criminal activity. One source stated: "Investigators are still awaiting the results of the post-mortem, but it appears to be a tragic accident."
Community Mourns
Periana Council expressed their sorrow in a statement addressed to the boy's parents: "Today is a deeply sad day for our town. On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the child who has passed away. There are no words that can ease such immense grief, but we do wish to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time. The whole of Periana shares your sadness and stands with you in your grief at such a painful and unjust loss."
Mayor Meritxell Vizueta visited the property alongside a councillor to offer comfort to the grieving family. Local reports indicate that the young boy was the only child of the holidaying couple, who are heartbroken by their loss. The British family had reportedly arrived at the farmhouse only the day before the tragedy.
