Four fire crews have raced to Totley Rail Tunnel in Sheffield after a fire broke out close to train tracks in Derbyshire, halting services through the Peak District.
Smoke Warning for Residents
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue warned there is "a lot of smoke in the area" and urged local residents to keep their windows and doors closed. A spokesperson said: "Four fire crews are in attendance at a fire in Totley rail tunnel in Sheffield. There is a lot of smoke in the area so please keep windows and doors closed if you live nearby and avoid the area if possible."
Rail Services Disrupted
The blaze is ongoing between Totley and Grindleford, in Derbyshire's Hope Valley, with all lines through the Peak District closed, National Rail said. A spokesperson said no services can run through the area until a safety inspection can be carried out.
The affected services include East Midlands Railway (EMR) trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Nottingham/Norwich, Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield, and TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes.
