Investigation details

The girl and her sibling were staying at the babysitter's home. The babysitter had left the property and placed the children in the care of their spouse at the time of the incident, according to CBS12 News.

Investigators said the spouse checked on the children periodically and found the girl with her head trapped inside the play kitchen. He freed her and began emergency aid.

The child's sibling said the three-year-old had become trapped while trying to retrieve toys that had fallen inside the play set.

Play set origin

Boynton Beach Police Public Information Officer Chelsea Sanabia told CBS12 News the toy kitchen was "an old wooden set that was bought off of Facebook Marketplace a few years ago". Investigators have not identified the make, model, or brand.

Ongoing investigation

The cause of death has not yet been revealed. It is unknown how long the girl was trapped or whether the case has been submitted for criminal review.

Police have not identified the girl, her parents, or the babysitter. No criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
