Shocking footage has captured the moment a thug knocked a cyclist off his bike into oncoming traffic in Stranraer. A fundraiser has since been launched to help the victim, known locally as Squeaky, get safety equipment for his bike.
Attack on Commerce Road
On Monday, 24 August, 2026, Michael, from Stranraer, was riding his bike on the town's Commerce Road. In the clip, he is seen travelling towards the A75 London Road when a black-clad rider approaches him from behind.
While someone else is filming the interaction, the attacker pedals faster to catch up with Michael. When Michael sees him approaching, he starts to move away from the kerb and slows down. However, Michael is then launched into the air when the thug swiftly turns and purposefully collides with him. As Michael falls to the ground, he seems to kick his bike out from underneath him.
Police charge youth
Michael is left lying on the concrete when a car is seen approaching the two as the attacker jumps off his bike and flees as it gets closer. Shouts of, "Oh my God", are heard from the person filming, who was also riding a bike close behind.
Police have confirmed that a male youth has since been charged with assault in connection with the incident. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A male youth has been charged in connection with assault after a man was pushed off his bike in Commerce Road, Stranraer on Monday, 24 August, 2026. A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities."
Community fundraiser
The video has left locals "disgusted" with the community launching a fundraiser to get Michael, who is branded as a "kind, gentle soul", safety equipment for his bike. Reacting to the video, one person said: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour. That poor car driver as well. It really could have been a horrific accident! Little p****s trying to show off is all it is! I hope the gentleman in the video is ok."
Another continued: "Awww no…I saw him coming down into Stair Drive tonight. If I’d have known this happened to him I would’ve stopped to help. I hope he’s okay." A third added: "Absolutely disgusted to see this. Squeaky doesn’t have much except his bike, I hope they're both ok. I do hope the power of Facebook will call them out. It can’t be too difficult to find a blue stunt bike."
The GoFundMe page is close to hitting its goal of £2,000 in just over 24 hours. A statement on the page read: "After seeing the horrifying, unprovoked incident that has happened to Squeaky recently, let's all show him the whole of Stranraer are behind him. Let’s help get him safety equipment and cameras so he feels safe to be able to get back on his bike. Squeeky is a kind gentle soul, who wouldn’t hurt a fly."
