Three more individuals have been arrested in connection with the disorder involving Rangers and Celtic supporters at Ibrox Stadium. The men, aged 39, 38, and 28, have been charged with various offences including assault, possessing an offensive weapon, culpable and reckless conduct, and breach of the peace. They are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court in due course.
Ugly Scenes at Ibrox
The disturbances occurred following the Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday, March 8. Flares were reportedly fired into crowds, and supporters, police officers, and stadium staff came under attack. A steward was seen being carried off the pitch, and several individuals required medical treatment.
Police Scotland confirmed the latest arrests, bringing the total number of arrests to 40. After the match, Celtic striker Tomáš Čvančara, who scored the winning penalty, was interviewed on television wearing a blood-stained shirt. He had been photographed intervening in an incident on the field. A member of Celtic's coaching staff was also allegedly attacked, and violence erupted outside the stadium following the game.
Fallout and Response
In response to the disorder, the Union Bears were locked out for the final Old Firm match of the season at Parkhead, where Martin O'Neill's team secured a 3-1 victory before clinching the league title with the same scoreline against Hearts a week later.
Rangers officials complained to the SPFL, which established a sub-committee to rule on the ticket allocation dispute. League bosses determined that Rangers were entitled to their five percent allocation but supported Celtic by stating they would not overrule a risk assessment carried out by the party legally responsible for event safety and security.
