Three people have been injured after a bus crashed into 12 stationary cars in a train station car park, sparking travel chaos. The incident happened at Portslade railway station this afternoon (September 1), prompting the station to close while emergency services attended.
Bus collision details
Officers say the bus is believed to have collided with a car before striking parked vehicles in the station car park. A woman was taken to hospital for treatment, while two men were treated at the scene. Their conditions are unknown at this stage.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving a bus and 12 stationary cars.
“Three motorists were injured. A woman was taken to hospital to be treated while two men were treated at the scene.
“The bus is believed to have collided with a car before colliding with parked cars in Portslade railway station car park.”
Travel disruption and reopening
Southern Rail initially told passengers that no trains could stop at Portslade and advised them to use alternative routes, with travellers warned to allow at least an additional 45 minutes for their journeys. The operator has since confirmed on X that Portslade station has reopened and the disruption has ended, with no further trains expected to be affected.
The AA also reported queueing traffic on the B2194 Boundary Road, which was partially blocked between Vale Road and Portslade Train Station.
