Three men were taken to hospital following a violent street brawl in Tuam, County Galway, which involved a machete, acid, and a wheel brace. One man sustained horrific injuries to his eye and face.

The altercation erupted on Shop Street in Tuam on Friday evening, 31st July 2026, at approximately 9:20pm. Shocking video footage shows several men fighting outside an opticians, with one man using a wheel brace to strike another repeatedly. Another man is seen spraying what appears to be a substance at a blood-covered victim.
During the brawl, a man is heard shouting "he started this" as others scream. Graphic images show the victim covered in blood with serious wounds around one eye. Sources report that acid, a machete, and a wheel brace were used in the attack.
Arrest and Investigation
Gardaí responded to the scene and subsequently arrested a man in his 40s, who is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region. The three injured men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were taken to University Hospital Galway with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurs amid a violent feud in the area that has escalated in recent days. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with camera footage, including dash cam or mobile phone recordings, from the Shop Street area between 9:00pm and 9:30pm to come forward.
