Braulio Joaquim Lemos, 33, attacked a door supervisor with a baseball bat after being told to leave a Nottingham McDonald's for harassing female staff and customers. The incident occurred in the early hours of September 22, 2023.
Attack details
Lemos was asked to leave the restaurant after persistently asking women for their phone numbers. He responded by punching the bouncer in the face during a scuffle at around 4am. He then walked home, changed into a tracksuit with a hood, and returned to Clumber Street at 5.18am armed with a baseball bat.
He hid behind a parked van before charging at the victim from across the street, striking him on the side of the head, and fleeing with the weapon. The bouncer suffered a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage and was taken to hospital.
Ongoing impact
Police said the head injury still affects the victim three years on, leaving him unable to live a normal life with his family.
Detective Inspector Lisa Jones of Nottinghamshire Police said: "Joaquim Lemos had ample opportunity to calm down and take a step back after the initial altercation with door staff. However, he chose instead to arm himself with a weapon and seek revenge by attacking the victim with such force that he fractured the man's skull."
She added: "Such violence has no place in our nighttime economy and anyone responsible for assaults of this nature can expect a robust response from the force and ultimately a spell behind bars."
Sentence
Lemos pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent on the day he was due to stand trial. On Friday, July 24, at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge Stuart Rafferty sentenced him to nine years in jail, describing the attack as "unnecessary, unlawful and in revenge." Lemos, of Northumberland Close, Nottingham, was also ordered to serve the sentence in full.
