A violent brawl at a Texas Whataburger, which erupted over a food order mix-up, has led to seven people being charged with assault causing bodily injuries. The incident occurred at a San Antonio branch of the burger chain at 3 am on Sunday, with police arriving to find two groups engaged in a vicious fist-fight.
Footage of the fight, which circulated on social media, shows customers throwing punches, one diner being sent flying across a table, and individuals being hurled to the ground and kicked. A girl is heard shouting, 'You’re a f*****g dad; What is wrong with you?' as two brawlers pin down another man. The video also captures two girls grappling with someone while punching them.
According to a Facebook user named Rebecca Noel, the altercation began when part of another table's order was mistakenly brought to her son and his friends. Noel claimed that staff merely told the other customers 'they have your food,' rather than intervening. She described the subsequent confrontation as a 'violent assault' that escalated far beyond a misunderstanding.
Seven individuals, aged 21 to 57, were arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injuries. A San Antonio Police Department report seen by KSAT indicated that four people were assaulted, including two 18-year-olds and two 20-year-olds. A Whataburger spokesperson confirmed that an off-duty employee involved in the brawl has been fired.
The burger chain stated, 'The safety of our Guests and employees is our top priority. We are cooperating fully with the authorities.' The Independent has contacted SAPD and Whataburger for further comment.
