Emergency services found an injured man on Front Street, in Benton, at around 9.30pm on Saturday. The man, aged in his 60s, had suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.
Arrest and Investigation
An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were later arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both have been released on police bail pending further enquiries, Northumbria Police confirmed.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 9.30pm on Saturday (July 25), we received a report of a disturbance in North Tyneside. It was reported that a man had been assaulted in the Front Street area of Benton."
"Emergency services attended and found a man – aged in his 60s – with injuries to his head. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged."
"Two people - a woman aged 19 and a man aged 18 - have since been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. They have both been released on police bail pending further enquiries."

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a person injured on Front Street, Benton, shortly before 9.30pm on 25 July. We dispatched a number of resources including a double crewed ambulance, clinical team leader, a specialist paramedic. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
