Teenager fighting for life after Birmingham shooting

A 16-year-old boy is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being shot in Birmingham, West Midlands Police have confirmed.

Shooting in Alum Rock

Police were called to Bowyer Road, near St Saviours Road in the Alum Rock area of the city, shortly before 5.30pm on Wednesday. The teenager was found with gunshot wounds and taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers said in a statement that although the shooting happened near a mosque, they do not believe at this stage the incident was connected to it, according to the Press Association.

Police investigation underway

West Midlands Police said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, and officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area.

“We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns.”

The force has not yet made any arrests and is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
