West Midlands Police released a statement saying: "An investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Oldbury. Officers were called to Market Street, at 12.15pm today (2 July) to reports of an altercation between a group of teenagers. A 19-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening. We are in the very early stages of our investigation and officers remain on scene carrying out enquiries and speaking to people in the area."

The statement added: "We know this will be worrying for residents in the local area, so would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to one of our patrolling officers.
