A teenage girl is in hospital with severe injuries after a crash that killed her boyfriend. Lucy Robb, 18, from Randalstown, Co Antrim, sustained critical injuries in an accident on the R232 near Pettigo, Co Donegal, on Sunday, August 2. Her boyfriend, Ronan King, from Lurgan, died in the collision.
Recovery and Fundraiser
Lucy is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where she is expected to stay for an extended period as she recovers from "serious, life-changing injuries." She was due to collect her A-level results the following week and had hoped to study Occupational Therapy at Ulster University in Derry, a goal she "worked tirelessly toward and was so excited to pursue."
Her aunt, Anne-Marie, has set up a GoFundMe page to help with rehabilitation and home modifications. The fundraiser has already raised over £15,500 (€18,000) towards its £18,000 (€21,000) goal.
Family's Appeal
In a message on GoFundMe, Anne-Marie said: "This tragedy has placed an overwhelming strain on (Lucy's) parents, Terry and Caroline. Lucy needs them both by her side in Dublin for the foreseeable future, yet they also have two other children at home who need care, stability, and support. Balancing these responsibilities is incredibly difficult, and the emotional and financial pressure on the family is immense."
She added: "Your prayers, kindness, and messages of support mean more than words can express. Terry and Caroline draw strength from every gesture of compassion shown to them during this heartbreaking time."
