Ceiran David Arnold Evans died from traumatic injuries following a crash between a car and an off-road bike in the Gorseinon area of Swansea on July 9, an inquest opening has heard.
Inquest details and charges
The inquest at the Guildhall in Swansea on Monday heard that police were called to Pen Cae Crwn Road at around 1pm after reports that an Audi had collided with an off-road motorbike carrying two young men, one of whom was Mr Evans. He was pronounced dead by attending paramedics.
Mr Evans was formally identified by DNA, and a post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Richard Jones. The driver of the Audi, Tyler Ford, 18, has been charged with Mr Evans' murder and the attempted murder of the second rider. The second rider has since been discharged from hospital.
Inquest adjourned
Senior coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Aled Gruffydd said: "In view of the fact that the circumstances indicate an unnatural cause of death I open an inquest into the death of Ceiran David Arnold Evans. Since there is a potential criminal matter which will take precedent I will adjourn the inquest pending the results of that criminal investigation."
Mr Evans was born in Swansea on December 1, 2007, and lived in the Gorseinon area. At the time of his death he was single and unemployed.
Court appearance and family tribute
Ford appeared at Swansea Crown Court on July 13, charged with murder and attempted murder. He confirmed his name and was not asked to enter a plea. Judge Paul Thomas KC fixed a plea and case management hearing for September 29, with a two-week trial set to begin on January 11 next year. Ford was remanded into custody.
In a tribute, Mr Evans' family said: "Ceiran was loved more than any words can say and will be missed every single day. His kind heart, wicked sense of humour, loving nature, and handsome smile brought so much joy to everyone who knew him. He will forever be our precious baby boy; always loved, always remembered, and never forgotten."
