A 19-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle collision on Sunday evening in which a car overturned in County Durham. Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance, were called to the B1281 Hesleden Road, near Blackhall Colliery, just before 7.15pm.
Details of the collision
A Volkswagen Passat and a Citroen C3 were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the incident. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 19-year-old man from Hesleden, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers—two 17-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl—were taken to hospital as a precaution and have since been discharged. The driver of the Citroen, a 22-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital but has also been discharged.
Road closure and appeal
The road was closed between Hesleden and Yohden Hall Nursing Home while collision investigators worked at the scene, but has since reopened.
Durham Constabulary has urged anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of the vehicles prior to the incident to get in touch via SCIU@durham.police.uk, quoting incident number 413 of August 2.
