Teen Dies in Gateshead Car Crash, Man Arrested

A 16-year-old girl has tragically died after being hit by a car in Gateshead. A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. The teenager passed away in hospital after the collision, which took place on Lobley Hill Road at 10:40 PM on Friday.

According to reports, she was struck by a silver Ford Fiesta near the junction with Schoolhouse Lane. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries but died shortly after. Her next of kin have been informed, and officers are providing support.

The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further inquiries. Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the moments leading up to the collision.

Sergeant Ben Rutherford of Northumbria Police's Roads Policing Unit said: "Firstly, we'd like to offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the teenage girl who has tragically lost her life. We will offer them all the support we can at this devastating time. We have launched a full investigation into the incident, and a number of enquiries have already been carried out, with a man arrested."

"I would ask anyone with information that could assist us – including those who may have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision – to get in touch so that we can ascertain exactly what happened."
