Six people have been arrested by armed police in a Fife village following an alleged “targeted” abduction in Edinburgh. The alarm was raised around 10.30pm on Thursday, August 13, after police received a report that a man had been abducted in the Canonmills area of the capital.
Victim traced to Longniddry
Following an extensive investigation, the 22-year-old was traced to Longniddry. The male was taken to hospital as a precaution. The force has now arrested five men, aged 21, 21, 22, 23 and 45, and a 40-year-old woman. Enquiries into the alleged abduction are ongoing.
Police believe incident was targeted
It is understood that police believe this was a targeted incident and there is no risk to the wider public. Images from the scene showed a police cordon in place at the junctions for Cunningham Court and Coal Road. Videos shared on social media showed firearm officers making arrests on the road after stopping a vehicle.
Emergency crews remain at scene
Emergency crews are still in attendance as police have warned drivers to avoid the area as diversions are in place. Detective Inspector Robbie Wallace said: “We understand an incident of this nature will be concerning but please be assured our enquiries are ongoing. Police will remain in the Longniddry area while this investigation continues and anyone with any concerns, or information, can approach these officers.”
