Actress Selma Blair, 54, has been arrested following allegations she bit and punched cabin crew members during a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday. The incident took place aboard Delta flight 938, which had arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport from LAX.
The Hollywood star, known for her roles in Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, is also understood to have tried to open the aircraft door. She was detained shortly after touchdown and transported to a medical facility for assessment, where she reportedly remains.
Medical emergency cited
A representative for the actress told TMZ: "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
One member of the cabin crew was also conveyed to hospital for evaluation. The New York Port Authority stated to The Mirror: "On Sunday October 11 at approximately 11pm at JFK Airport, PAPD responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger aboard Delta Airlines flight 938 which was parked at the gate after arrival from LAX. Suspect was identified as Selma Blair, a 54 year-old woman."
"She was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation. Two flight attendants also reported injuries, and one was transported to the hospital for further evaluation."
FBI investigation underway
The NYPA has confirmed that the FBI is currently investigating the incident. Representatives for Delta Air Lines stated: "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
Audio footage released of the alleged altercation features a woman repeatedly screaming "No!" as an alarm sounds in the background.
According to a federal law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to comment publicly on the matter, the FBI has issued Blair with a notice charging her with assault.
Prior to the incident, Selma had taken to social media to share updates about her hectic schedule, writing on X: "From LA to New Mexico to La to nyc to LA Scout and I have been busy. I miss you."
