Firefighters are continuing to work at the scene of a large warehouse fire in Salford for a second day. The Marc Darcy suits showroom on Bury New Road has been destroyed by a blaze that started at 1:40 AM on Thursday, August 6.
Blaze and Response
Residents nearby reported hearing two loud bangs before the flames grew. Eight fire engines and specialist resources were sent to the scene, with the building already well alight when crews arrived. Video footage from early Thursday showed large flames erupting from the site, and firefighters were later seen damping down the area.
Current Situation
Emergency services remain on Bury New Road this morning, Friday. A cordon is in place, with Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) at the scene. A GMFRS spokesperson said crews are still dealing with hotspots in the building.
New images reveal that much of the structure has collapsed, leaving bricks and debris scattered on the ground, surrounded by cordon tape. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, and GMP has been contacted for more information.
Business Impact
Marc Darcy has posted a notice on its website saying: "Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new orders. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding."
