A refugee was brutally assaulted in a "racist attack" by two masked thugs who fled on off-road bikes. Abdo Sheikho, 39, was at Strathclyde Country Park near Motherwell on Saturday, August 8, when the men allegedly battered him with stones.
Attack Details
Abdo, originally from Syria, was left with cuts to his face and hands. Now living in Glasgow after fleeing his home country, he said he was "absolutely terrified" following the attack.
Speaking to Glasgow Live, he said: "I tried to flee but they chased me into the wooded area and attacked me — striking my hands, face, and legs with the motorbike. They wounded my hands and face and asked when I had arrived in the country; I told them five years ago. They continued their assault, but somehow I managed to escape."
Aftermath and Impact
He called the police, who arrived, helped him, and took him to the train station. They told him he had been subjected to racism and hate; he was absolutely terrified and is currently in pain in his leg.
Abdo said he was also struck with large stones which hit his chest and that he has been left severely distraught. He added that "one of them tried to run me over and kill me." During the incident, he cried, screamed and begged for mercy, asking his attackers "why are you doing this, brother?"
Abdo shared photos taken during and after the attack showing the extent of his injuries and the alleged attackers, seen wearing balaclavas to hide their identity. Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
