Residents have spoken of their shock after a man was stabbed on a 'quiet' residential street in Prestwich. Emergency services attended Carrigart, a small cul-de-sac off Bury New Road near St Mary's Park, shortly before 2:30pm on Wednesday, July 22.
A man in his 30s was stabbed in the leg, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said. It is understood he suffered heavy blood loss, with residents describing blood 'splattered' across the grass and pavement in front of a group of properties on the street which contains maisonettes.
Arrests and investigation
Paramedics took the man to hospital for further treatment. His current condition is not known. A man and a woman, both also in their 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody for questioning.
The street remained taped off on Wednesday evening, with a cordon in place and forensics and detectives working at the scene.
Residents react
Those living nearby have spoken of their horror. A woman who lives on the street, who did not want to be named, said: "It's horrific. My little boy had to come home to a bloodbath and step over it. It's not good." She continued: "It's a bit weird. Just not a nice thing to happen on your doorstep. I am shocked it's happened here."
Another resident on the estate said he came out of his property around 4pm to empty his bins and saw 'so much blood' on the walkway outside. "It was so scary," he said. "I just walked back to my house. It's not good at all."
Mohammed, 38, said at first he feared there had been a fatality when he also came out of his property around 4pm and saw the police activity. "I was relieved when they said there hadn't," he said. "But it's still very shocking the more you think about it and analyse it. The majority of people who live here are elderly or families. I've got little kids and the fact it's happened so close, I just didn't think it would happen here."
A neighbour said: "I'm not surprised. It's just a feeling I had, that something bad was going to happen." Another added: "It's strange to see it taped off. It's a nice, quiet area. I have never seen anything like this before. It makes you nervous."
