A man in his 30s was stabbed in the leg on a residential street in Prestwich, prompting shock among neighbours who described blood 'splattered' across the pavement. The incident occurred on Carrigart, a small cul-de-sac off Bury New Road near St Mary's Park, shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday, July 22.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the victim suffered severe blood loss. Paramedics took him to hospital for treatment; his current condition is unknown. A man and a woman, both in their 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody for questioning.
Residents react to 'bloodbath'
The street was cordoned off with police tape, and forensics and detectives were at the scene. A local mother, who asked to remain anonymous, said: 'It's horrific. My little boy had to come home to a bloodbath and step over it. It's not good.' She added: 'It's a bit weird. Just not a nice thing to happen on your doorstep. I am shocked it's happened here.'
Another resident said he emerged from his home around 4pm to put out bins and saw 'so much blood' on the walkway. 'It was so scary. I just walked back to my house. It's not good at all,' he said.
Shock and relief
Mohammed, 38, said he initially feared someone had died when he saw the police presence. 'I was relieved when they said there hadn't. But it's still very shocking the more you think about it and analyse it. The majority of people who live here are elderly or families. I've got little kids and the fact it's happened so close, I just didn't think it would happen here.'
A neighbour commented: 'I'm not surprised. It's just a feeling I had, that something bad was going to happen.' Another added: 'It's strange to see it taped off. It's a nice, quiet area. I have never seen anything like this before. It makes you nervous.'
