Police Scotland have launched an investigation after Dundee goalkeeper Owen Goodman was struck by a missile during Saturday’s derby victory over Dundee United.
The on-loan Crystal Palace keeper was hit by an object thrown from the Eddie Thompson Stand at The CalForth Construction Arena during the second half. Goodman was not injured in the incident at Tannadice, which happened while Dundee were 1-0 ahead.
Referee flags incident
Referee David Dickinson picked up the object and flagged the incident to authorities, with Police Scotland now appealing for information to help identify the person responsible. Officers were seen speaking to Goodman after the final whistle as part of their investigation.
Constable Matthew Boath said: “Thankfully the man was not injured, however this type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. An investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with both clubs to identify the person responsible.”
Appeal for witnesses
The force is appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and may be able to help with enquiries to come forward.
Constable Boath added: “I urge anyone at the game who witnessed the incident and can assist in our enquiries to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2015 of August 22, 2026.”
Derby victory
The incident came during an action-packed Dundee derby, with Dundee going on to secure victory over their city rivals.
Dundee boss Steven Pressley said after the match that he had only just been made aware of the incident.
He said: “I’ve just been made aware of that so I’m unsure. Whatever he was hit with, it didn't affect him.”
