Police are investigating a horrific attack on a seagull in Porthleven, Cornwall, where a man allegedly punched the bird for stealing his food and then stuffed it through a fence, leaving it with broken wings.

Incident Details

The attack occurred on Monday afternoon, July 13, by the harbour near the Harbour View Café. According to a witness on social media, the man attacked the seagull after it tried to take his food. The witness described the man repeatedly smashing the seagull against a wall before forcing it through a fence onto the road, where it struggled with two broken wings.

Witness Account

The witness stated: "This man brutally and repeatedly smashed a seagull against the wall of the Harbour View Café because it tried to steal some food. He then stuffed the seagull through the fence onto the road, where it floundered with two broken wings. This was in front of numerous people and children who were hugely upset."

Police Appeal

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched an appeal for information. A spokesperson said: "We have been made aware following a report of a seagull being injured by a man by the harbour in Porthleven on the afternoon of Monday, July 13. It was reported the suspect grabbed and punched the seagull leaving it injured. Enquiries into the matter are ongoing."
