Police Appeal After Coatbridge Sexual Assault on Teen

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information in relation to a sexual assault of a woman in Coatbridge. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, when a 17-year-old woman was walking on a lane near Blair Road and Auldhame Street at around 1am. She was approached by an unknown man.

Suspect Description

The male suspect is described as white, with dark hair, and was wearing a padded jacket and dark trousers. Following enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, it is understood the man was still in the nearby area around 1.20am after being seen between Frederick Street and Gartsherrie Road.

Police Appeal

Detective Inspector Lorraine Wilson said: "Extensive enquiries remain ongoing to identify the man responsible for what was a distressing incident for the victim. From our enquiries so far, we know that there were still plenty of passing vehicles in the area, including the main roads of Blair Road and Gartsherrie Road, and we are asking any drivers to think back if they remember seeing anyone acting suspiciously or matching this description to contact us."

Wilson added: "Anyone who has any information which could help identify this man is asked to come forward, regardless of how insignificant it may seem. This includes anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which could provide vital details to assist our enquiries."

Increased Patrols

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Gareth Brown, said: "An increased visible police presence will remain in the area while enquiries continue. We will be carrying out pro-active patrols and members of the public are encouraged to approach these officers if they have any concerns."
