A pilot has sustained serious injuries following a plane crash at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Essex. The incident occurred this afternoon (August 16) during the Stow Maries Air Show.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Emergency services rushed to the scene near Woodham Ferrers after Essex Police received the first call just before 2.25pm. The only person in the aircraft has been transported to hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
Public Asked to Avoid Area
Authorities have asked the public to steer clear of the area to allow emergency services to operate. A representative from Essex Police said: "Those attending the event are urged to follow the instructions of organisers and emergency service personnel. The public are asked to please avoid the area to allow responders the space to work at the scene."
Aerodrome Statement and Closure
Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome confirmed the incident in a statement: "Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome can confirm that there has been an air incident during our Air Show. More information will follow shortly. In the meantime, the Museum is closed to the public." The museum has been closed to the public following the incident.
