A pilot was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an incident at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Essex on Sunday, 16 August. The incident occurred during a low-level display at The Stow Maries Air Show.
Incident Details
The aerodrome confirmed the incident in a statement, saying it happened during a performance by The Turbulent Team. One of the aircraft became damaged, and the pilot sustained injuries requiring transportation to hospital. The Air Show was halted following the incident.
Emergency services attended the scene near Woodham Ferrers in the afternoon. The aerodrome said it is co-operating with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and emergency services, and the site is currently closed to the public.
Police Response
An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Those attending the event are urged to follow the instructions of organisers and emergency service personnel. The public are asked to please avoid the area to allow responders the space to work at the scene."
Another Essex Police spokesperson, as reported by the BBC, said: "The sole occupant of the aircraft has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
No other injuries were reported.
