An 84-year-old man has been jailed for killing his wife during a failed parking attempt. The man was reversing his car when he crashed into a parked vehicle, then accelerated forwards, tragically striking his wife who was standing in front of the car.
Crash sequence and damage
After hitting his wife, the man reportedly continued speeding down the road, colliding with several garden fences, two parked cars, and a camper van. His car came to a halt after traveling about 500ft (around 152.4m), police said.
The wife died at the scene, while her husband was taken to hospital with serious injuries. It remains unknown why he drove away from the scene where his partner was dying.
Investigation and costs
Officers in Germany are continuing to investigate the wife's death. It is believed that the pensioner's dangerous driving caused damage of more than £86,000.
The incident remains under investigation.
